Tallent: I am really excited about coming to Saransk again

09.05.2012

Dual-Olympic medallist Jared Tallent will compete across 50km in his fifth IAAF World Race Walking Cup. He won bronze in the 50km walk at the 2010 event in Chihuahua, Mexico, and last year replicated that performance at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu.

«I am really excited about coming to Saransk again, as I feel that I am in great shape and I will be able to walk fast. The World Cup will be a test to see if everything is on track for the Olympic games.

I have great memories of Saransk. The family of Denis Nizhegorodov was very welcoming and spent time showing my coach and me around the beautiful city and through the walking school.

The race I remember was prefect with a huge crowd and plenty of support from the wonderful city. Some of the athletes were very friendly even giving me a bottle of Vodka to take home after the competition!

I hope to be able to stand on the podium like I did at the last World Cup however I know this will be very difficult as my Russian rivals will be extremely hard to beat on their home turf!»
